Any opinions on Capella University?
I am looking to earn an interior design degree from Capella University and I so far am impressed with what I have seen. Does anyone have anything negative to say about them, or praise? Would especially like someone’s opinion if they have graduated or gone there themselves, and how their job placement services are. Thanks ahead of time!
Oops, not interior design, but the Management for Non-Profit organizations…got my schools mixed up. Thanks ahead of time!
I am currently going there for a M.S. in Information Technology. The program is good and the instructors and pretty decent. In regards to job placement, I don’t know how good their services are, as I’m already employed. The are fully accredited by the The Higher Learning Commission and North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, which is helpful in getting future employers to actually give you credit for your degree. I think there is still a bit of a stigma attached to doing your degree online, but suprisingly Capella seems to get a better response to University of Phoenix when I talk about it with peers.
Bottom Line: If you have a lot of self motivation and self direction this is a great school. They will help you help youself, but it will be just as expensive as going to a real campus.
Best of luck!
Would I be better off not getting a degree at all rather than getting a degree from Capella University?
If you ask 100 general people what they think of Capella University, about 98 will answer with "who?", one will have a favorable impression, and one will have an unfavorable impression. (not a scientifically based comment, but you get the idea)
Those "in the know" are fully aware of who and what Capella University is and asking the question here implies that you question the value and/or utility of that degree. If that is the case then you should explore another option.
There are plenty of options out there and in the final analysis, you have to be happy with your choice. It matters very little in your life what I think of Capella; it may matter what prospective employers think.
No matter where you ask though – there will always be some people that think that College X is the only "real" college in the world or that any college below Tier Y isn’t worth the effort.
You should attend the very best college that you can. If that’s Capella then the degree you get from there will be more than the degree you don’t get from anywhere.
Does anyone have any knowledge about Capella University?
Is a PhD from this institution prestigous or worthy? Attending colloquia is a requirement, as well as the dissertation.
Here is the website for this on line university: http://www.capella.edu/
Here is what Wikipedia says about the University, but remember, the public is allowed to change or write in their opinions. The University may have sent in this description:
"Capella University is a private, for-profit, specialized distance learning institution of higher learning that is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Capella University offers bachelor’s, master’s and PhD degrees in business, technology, education, human services and psychology. The masters degree programs in counseling are also CACREP accredited. Today, the university has more than 15,000 students from all 50 states and 63 countries.
The school is owned by the Capella Education Company, a privately owned, for-profit parent company."
But before you decide here is a website you may want to check out: http://www.vault.com/nr/newsmain.jsp?nr_page=3&ch_id=421&article_id=19393&cat_id=2575
It discuses the value of an online degree.
Good Luck Hope This Helps you decide.
What is the name of Capella University’s favorite Director of Training?
Absolutely it was Dr. Nanette Reese Rivers. She was a cute blonde with a contagious laugh. She brightened everyone’s day that she worked with. The love of her life was her son, Michael. We don’t know why you had to leave us, Nan, but we miss you terribly. Capella has never been the same since you left. Please keep the students of Capella in your thoughts and prayers, going through terrible times right now. Lots of harrassment, discrimination and disenrollment going on that Dr. Nan would never have allowed on her watch!
There is any good and reasonable priced a PHD education – under distance learning process ?
Walden, Capella and Phoenix are all quiet mediocre schools.
What is your purpose in doing a PhD? PhD are usually done either in order to get into academe, or in order to specialise – for the market – even more than an MBA or an MA would give you.
For the first one, PhD by distance learning is definitely a bad idea. No university would hire you as a lecturer/professor after a distance learning course; part of the PhD course in graduate schools also involves working with students, experiencing research with your supervisor, etc.
In the market, employers might still prefer a candidate with a "regular" PhD, but might accept a distance learning PhD from a good university.
This might help:

Please note, that if you already have an MBA or an MA in economics, that many UK and European universities offer a PhD programme which doesn’t include any classes attendance, and if you manage to reach an agreement in that spirit with the supervisor – you might only have to visit the university several times a year, but not actually live there.

Is Capella a good Online University?
I am planning to do my masters in Counselling Psychology online and some one recomended Capella, is this University Accredited in The US?
CuriousOne suggested something great. I am attending Capella; however, you may be located near a traditional university that offers hybrid courses. I am not (or at least in my PhD discipline), but for masters there are simply more options.
Also, see the link below to check out if schools are accredited (Capella is). This will take you directly to the accrediting source and not just going by what the university says. Good luck!
Does Capella University hire instructors with fake degrees?
Is it true that for-profit Capella University has hired people with fake degrees?
I’ve read that they have an instructor who bought fake degrees who is still there. One of those web sites is –
http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?threadid=3571&highlight=stottlemyer
Capella University does hire people with fake degrees. The person mentioned in the link has been there for many years and is still there. She is still listed in their current catalog.
Who cares if the government hires people with fake degrees? That doesn’t make it right. Capella University has hired someone with fake degrees a long time ago and that person is still there. A real school would never hire someone like that. Others have fired people who have bought fake degrees from the same diploma mill.
There is no excuse for anyone to hire frauds that use fake degrees. When a university hires someone and then doesn’t do anything about it then that is an even bigger fraud. The fact that the person is still teaching at Capella University after all these years is very disturbing. The United States Government even did a study on the diploma mill that the person from Capella bought her fraudulent degrees from. The school’s name is Lacrosse University and the report was given to Congress more than four years ago. Capella University is committing fraud by letting people with fake degrees teach there.
Does Capella University have a provost?
When I looked at Capella University’s web site, I can’t find anyone listed as their provost. Normally the provost is the chief academic officer at a school. Does Capella currently have provost? If so, who?
This seems to be very strange. Capella University used to have a provost; her name is Karen Viechnicki. Maybe she was fired or let go? Wish I could give a better answer but it is odd that Capella no longer seems to have a provost.
Is Capella University well respected by employers and a good school to pursue an MBA?
Please do steer clear of those online, for-profit schools such as capella, u of phoenix, ITT tech, kaplan, penn foster, walden, strayer, devry, keiser, ashworth and others as they are merely out to ‘make a profit’ (and course credits may not transfer): http://www.ripoffreport.com and can type into search.
Most, if not all, colleges offer online courses so please consider a major college or uni when furthering one’s education.

Capella University PhD students get engaged at colloquium
Capella University PhD student David Wells proposes to LaTanya Jones, another Capella PhD student, at Capella’s February 2009 colloquium in Atlanta (the two had met at a previous colloquium). Her answer: yes!
Congratulations!

Is there a review of Capella University?
I am looking at pursuing a degree from Capella University and I wanted to see if there are reviews for this program.

etc., etc.
Just did a google search for Capella ranking.
I see that Capella University was just recognized by the NSA for CAEIAE. What can you tell me?
I am still looking at the online schools and I see that Capella University, which already is the only online school pessessing CACREP accreditation and SHRM certification, was just recognized by the Department of Home Land Security and the National Security Agency as a Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance. What does this mean to Capella learners, current and future?
Taranto is right. Capella University is a place for those who can’t cut it anywhere else. Only bottom feeders need apply. HR Directors are known to throw resumes from those attending Capella in the trash can. The Chronicle of Higher Education recently posted an article called, "Employers Often Distrust Online Degrees" That article mentioned that
"Silvia Guzman, regional human-resources manager for ProTec Building Services, likens online degrees to diploma mills or institutions that advertise on career Web sites promising to help you earn a degree in a year.
"The online degree is not weighed as heavily as a traditional degree," says Ms. Guzman, who hires people for a range of positions, including publishing, administration, and building engineering. "It’s almost like, oh, you’re purchasing a degree."
"She mentioned several universities that raise red flags for her when she sees them on résumés, including Capella University, an accredited for-profit online institution, and the University of Phoenix, an accredited for-profit institution that has both classroom and online programs."
Capella University is the place to go if you want to buy a degree that others will laugh at.
I am considering attending Capella University. What can people tell me about it?
I am looking at attending Capella University and getting my Bachelors degree in Human Resource Management. What can people tell me about them?
Dale. Capella is one of the best and most reputable online schools around. Not only are they known for their rigerous and challenging course work but they are highly regarded by Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies such as Home Depot, WalMart, Target, Johnson and Johnson, Boeing, Microsoft, Northwest Memorial Hospital, US Bank, and Kieser Permenta but they have additional professional or specialized accreditations that go way beyond their regional accreditation.
Capella is the ONLY online school that is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs. Other Minnesota colleges/universities possessing this acceditation are Winona State, St. Cloud State, and Minnesota State U. in Mankato and Moorhead. This accreditation is extremely difficult to get.
Also, Capella University was recently recognized at a National Security Agency/Department of Homeland Security Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education. What does this mean? Simply that Capella University offers an education that meets or surpasses the standards that the Federal Government has set forth in educating IT professionals in securing top secret data. Another extremely difficult recognition to achieve.
And finally and more to your area of study, Capella University is the only online school that has been recognized by the Society for Human Resource Managers as being allowed to map its educational structure in the HR studies to the SHRM model.
You are making a wise choice.
