Does any one know where I can do this access course? I want to do a nursing degree but need to do the access course 1st. I would like to do it from home (distance learning) but can’t find any where that does it.
I have looked at the open university and learn direct, they sadly don’t do the course I need.

Have to you tried contacting learn direct or even the open university I know they used to do such a course. Remember if you haven’t already applied for Individual Learning accounts (ILA’s ) to help towards the cost of your access course. Learn Direct will have the details.

Just a thought are you a mature student if not will not your pressent qualifications count towards your access course or your present work experience such as caring or the like.

Am considering a distance learning course that would enable to me to eventually get a foot in the door to working with special needs children. Which would be the ideal course to take? Child care & development? Teaching assistant course? To those that have already been there and done that which courses did you take?

I have worked in Special Needs Education for 17 years. Initially as an Support Worker and now an Learning Support Assistant. I don’t believe that any training can fully prepare you and you really need to get some on the job experience. My employer offers CACHE training which is equivalent to NVQ. There are 2 levels and take approximately 2 years. Very worthwhile doing at the same time as working with the children.

The course name is Post Graduation Diploma In HRM. Its a two yrs course.

Talk to an adviser from this school and ask them about their post-graduation employment statistics (ie., employment rate, salary.) Since you’re going to school to further your education and hopefully get a better job and make more money, you should find out how the school’s graduates are doing.

If the 90% of the school’s graduates are unemployeed one year after graduation, for example, then maybe you should find a different school.

I am thinking of taking up a course to fit around my work life. I work fulltime, so think a distance learning course would suit me best. Problem is, there are so many online sites that offer courses, how do I know what is reputable?
I don’t want to lose out on money, or be scammed either. I just want a qualification.
Can anybody recommend a site to me? x

The best places are local colleges or adult learning centres – that is if the ones in your area do distance learning.

If not, beware! I wouldn’t recommend any of the national based distance learning providers because…

They charge two or three times more than local providers do.

They don’t give a lot of support and usually send out course materials which are no better than a book you can buy for less than £20 in your local high street.

They are not registered exam centres and therefore leave you to find your own exam centre to register with, which is almost impossible as most exam centres will only take on people who are studying with them.

They are also not accountable to any Governmental authority and therefore have no commitment to see that you complete your course, and many of them will forget about you once they have your money.

These distance learning providers are not monitored in the same way that schools and colleges are. Therefore, there are no official statistics for these organisations that show the numbers of people completing courses with them, and there is no way of knowing how good or bad they are.

These are the things you need to look out for when using distance or home learning. When you see a distance learning provider who on their web site has a shopping basket for you to put as many courses in as you like and buy them, alarm bells should ring.

i’m looking for a free online course that goes over private investigation / background checks..doesn’t have to be all that great, just something to put on my resume really. i already have a 4 year degree so this is meaningless, but might as well do it. thanks

i want to take a government course online next semester, but i don’t know if i can or not.

Usually anyone can go to CC when they turn 16 but just call the admissions department to check. I know homeschoolers do not need anything special, but high schoolers might need permission from the public school.

I am thinking of taking on maybe a diploma in psychology that may lead to a degree/masters in due course..i was wondering if there is anything online with regards to a free and basic psychology course that i can take? like the content and mock exams etc to give me some direction and maybe tell me that i can do it for real?

They say that some of the courses don’t include answers to exams because the instructors want to reuse them, but the answers should be available in the lecture notes. It’s not exactly what you were looking for, but maybe it will get you started.

You can’t get something for nothing. If someone offers a Bachelor’s Degree for free, they are scamming you. If you list a fake degree on your resume, you can be fired or even prosicuted. It isn’t worth it. Apply for financial aid and do it the right way. Fill out a FAFSA form and see what kinds of grants or low interest loans you might be qualified for. Grants don’t have to be paid back. Low interest student loans don’t have to be paid back until you graduate.

I am looking into postgraduate distance learning options. What credentials can I look for, so that I know I’m not just getting a piece of paper.
[I am very suspicious about Belford University. It claims to be accredited by the 'International Accreditation Agency for Online Universities]‘ Yet they claim you can get a degree in 7 days based on ‘life experience?!’

Open University is a decent accredited university, I’m sure many employers are aware of it. My sister is doing a course with them at the moment.

Why are you looking into doing a distance learning course though? Why not full time with a University… distance learning is not always easy, as my sister has found because it limits you from receiving help and guidance and you don’t get to learn with others.

I just need to refresh on my math and a virtual course would be perfect. Is there a place online where I can re-learn algebra and trigonometry and do some sample problems?

I don’t know about online, but; I do know that many college bookstores sell a math book from which on teaches themself. It starts out with very simple math and you work up to calculus I think. Anyway you can pretty much go as far as you want to in it. One thing is sure, that you will be able to put yourself into a position to qualify in whatever math course or possibly scientific classes; and many others. It depends entirely on what you want to do.

I am living outside US but would like to take NY Bar Exam next July. Would you have good recommendation as to which distance learning/online course I should take? I am looking at comprehensive notes, case studies, past year exam questions + answers. Thanks for your feedback.

You should take a bar review course for NY. Most attorneys have taken a course for each bar they take. Many offer online courses. They are expensive but imagine if you have to continue to pay the application fee and of course your time.

For quite a while i’ve been looking for a distance learning course but most universities only seem to offer this option for Management and business subjects.

The UK Open University has quite a range of very interesting subject but these are very expensive for non UK (European) students.

I’ve thought of going to study abroad (im from malta) but I can’t afford to quit my job since I bought a house and have a mortgage to pay so the only option is distance courses.

Any help where I might look?
